In line with efforts to advance Agenda 2063, the African Union’s 50-year master plan, Mr. Essa Marenah, Acting Executive Director, Medicines Control Agency (MCA), attended the 7th Meeting of the Steering Committee of the African Union Smart Safety Surveillance Programme (AU-3S), held in Dakar, Senegal from 15-16 September 2025. The meeting brought together heads of National Drug Regulatory Authorities from across Africa, alongside global partners and technical experts.
Since inception, AU-3S Programme, focused on strengthening regulatory authorities with the data, tools, and capabilities needed to ensure that medical products used across the continent are safe, effective, and trustworthy, ultimately protecting lives and building public confidence.
The Gambia is proud to join this circle of collaboration, alongside other new member countries.
MCA reaffirms its commitment to working with AUDA-NEPAD, African Union, regional and global partners to advance pharmacovigilance, promote access to quality, safe and efficacious medicines and related products, and ultimately protect lives.
