The Bundung Magistrates Court fined Mr. Alagie Touray the sum of D500,000, in default of which he will serve five years in prison, for operating an unauthorized drug premises in contravention of Section 60 of the Medicines and Related Products Act, 2014.
The case was presided over by Magistrate M. Mendy and Mr. Touray, a first-time offender, pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him by prosecutor Mr. B. Jarju, who represented the Inspector General of Police.
In his plea of mitigation, Mr. Touray begged the court to temper justice with mercy, explaining that he had not fully commenced operations at the said Drug Premises due to his mother’s illness, which required him to be away in Senegal.
In her ruling, Magistrate Mendy imposed a fine of D500,000 on Mr. Touray, with a default sentence of five years’ imprisonment.
